Building Official Intern Program
The City of Markham’s Building Official Internship Program is an 18-month structured training experience designed to develop skills and meet Provincial requirements. It includes four phases:
- Phase 1: Permit Administration (Months 1–4)
- Phase 2: Plans Examination (Months 5–8)
- Phase 3: Building Inspections and Reporting (Months 9–12)
- Phase 4: Combination of Plans Examination and Building Inspections (Months 13–18)
Interns gain knowledge in the Ontario Building Code and related regulations, preparing them for certification and entry-level roles like Building Inspector I or Plans Examiner I. The program is open to college/university graduates in fields like Building Construction, Engineering, and Architecture.
The program helps address Ontario's shortage of qualified Building Officials by training interns to enforce building laws, ensuring health, safety, fire protection, accessibility, and structural standards in Markham.
