Spotlight Weekends at Markham Museum
From January 11th to March 2nd, join us as we shine a spotlight on the unique buildings, hands-on activities, and exceptional services that make Markham Museum a true community treasure. All experiences (with the exception of our Lunar New Year Celebration) are included in the price of admission.
Each weekend will feature a new focus, giving visitors the chance to explore historic buildings, enjoy interactive demonstrations, and take part in family friendly fun. There’s always something exciting to discover!
- Print Shop – Jan 11 & 12 – Check out our print shop and learn about different methods of communication. Learn more about Morse code and how to send out your own message. Printing press demonstrations, puzzling messages, and crafts will ink up your experience at the Museum!
- Textile Studio – Jan 18 & 19 – Check Out Our Textile Studio This Weekend for Some Fashion, Fabric, and Fun! Our textile studio features drop spindles, table and floor looms, embroidery crafts, and a fashionable experience. Drop in to learn more about fibre arts throughout the weekend.
- Lunar New Year – Jan 25 & 26 – Celebrate Lunar New Year at Markham Museum! Join us on January 25th and 26th from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. for a family-friendly celebration featuring paper cutting, calligraphy, zhezhi (paper folding), and snake-themed crafts. Pre-registration is required but admission is free—donations are encouraged to support future cultural programs!
- Wilson Variety Hall – Feb 1 & 2 – Calling All Fashionistas! Enhance your knowledge of the fashion styles of the late 1800s. Visit our Wilson Variety Hall to learn more about the dressmaking process of Mrs. Wilson. Learn about historic styles and create your own design on one of our mini mannequins.
- S.T.E.A.M. Workshop – Feb 8 & 9 – Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math All Come Together This Weekend at Markham Museum!
Using the STEAM interdisciplinary and applied approach to learning, participants will discover the world of engineering and its various branches through hands-on teamwork challenges. - Play With Clay – Feb 15 & 16 – Roll Up Your Sleeves and Get Creative with Clay! Learn about various techniques such as pinching, coil building, and slab building with this hands-on experience. Play with Clay is an experience designed to give our visitors a taste of the many aspects of clay. Have your clay creation fired in our kilns for an additional fee.
- From the Ground Up – Feb 22 & 23 – Discover Some of the Amazing Pottery Finds from Multiple Excavations at Markham Museum!
Our gallery space, From the Ground Up, will feature additional hands-on archaeology-based experiments and activities throughout the weekend. - Makerspace – Mar 1 & 2 – Markham Museum’s Makerspace Weekend! Activate our Transportation Hall with interactive stations perfect for experiencing STEAM learning come to life. Explore the exhibitions, express your creativity, and experience the marvels of engineering and technology.
