Forbes names City of Markham amongst Canada’s Best Employers for 5th straight year
MARKHAM, ON – January 21, 2025 – For the fifth consecutive year, the City of Markham has been recognized as one of Canada’s Best Employers 2025. Announced earlier today, the City of Markham is ranked 2nd among municipalities in Canada and 12th overall for Government Services.
“Organizational excellence doesn't come easy these days, it requires a strong commitment to employees and creating a culture of accountability along with embracing creativity and innovation. I am extremely proud the City of Markham has been recognized as one of Canada’s Best Employers for the fifth year in a row," said Mayor Frank Scarpitti. “Ranking the 2nd best City in all of Canada sets us apart from many cities, thanks to our senior management and all our of employees.”
The City of Markham was once again named one of Canada’s Best Employers for 2025 by Forbes and Statista Inc., the world-leading statistics portal and industry ranking provider, through an independent survey of more than 40,000 Canada-based employees working for companies employing at least 500 people in Canada. The evaluation was based on direct and indirect recommendations from employees that were asked to rate their willingness to recommend their own employers to friends and family. Employee evaluations also included other employers in their respective industries.
"Markham is more because it’s served by a dedicated and hardworking public service and this continuous achievement is a testament to our commitment to putting people first and the strength of our organizational culture that is rooted deeply in our City’s strategic plan," said CAO Andy Taylor.
Markham’s strength as an employer continues to lie in its commitment to its comprehensive People Plan which supports the City’s strategic goal of delivering exceptional services by exceptional people with a focus on onboarding, providing continuous opportunities for development and learning, wellness initiatives, recognition, open communication, and a commitment to diversity and inclusion – as outlined in the Diversity Action Plan.
We are pleased and proud to be recognized along with a number of global companies with a large presence in Markham including IBM Canada, Honda Canada, TD Bank Group, Tesla, Hallmark, Oak Valley Health, SE Health, AMD, Brookfield Global Integrated Solutions and General Motors.
